Real World Productions (RWP) recently received a multi-year grant from USAID-Manila to implement a public-private alliance basic education project under USAID's EQuALLS project. EQuALLs stands for "Education Quality and Access for Learning and Livelihood Skills". Under EQuALLS, RWP is leading the Real World Alliance's project, Improving English Language Teaching and Learning in Mindanao, to enhance English proficiency and English teaching skills in formal, nonformal and informal education settings. The project has supported development of "Tuning In to Language and Culture". The project provides recorded audio and integrated books for students supplemented by locally developed lesson plans for teachers in upper elementary and high school classes. The Real World Alliance is training teachers to use audio drama and integrated Listener's Guides and Teacher's Guides to enrich English language teaching. Through agreements with 5 radio stations we are also bringing English learning opportunities to the broader public through multi-lingual broadcasts built around our "core" Real World English audio. Radio station and project staff have been trained to develop broadcasts for audiences who wish to improve their English language skills.
